History:

In 1965 as Sherwood Githens Jr High School was built adjacent to the current Jordan High School on Garrett Road. The school was named after Sherwood Githens, Jr. He graduated from UNC - Chapel Hill in 1936 with a PhD in Physics. During his career he taught at Wake Forest College and Harvard, Baylor and Duke Universities.

In 1988 our current building was completed on land that was formerly owned by Sherwood Githens, Jr. We are a middle school serving 6th - 8th graders.

Directions:

From I-40 Westbound:

Take exit 273A for NC-54 W toward Chapel Hill. Merge onto NC-54. Turn right at Farrington Rd. Turn right at Old Chapel Hill Rd. Arrive at Sherwood Githens Middle School.

From I-85:

Head southeast on I-85 N/US-15 N/US-501 N toward Exit 176B. Take exit 176B for Duke St/US-501 N toward Roxboro. Merge onto N Duke St/US-501. Slight right onto the US-70 W/US-15 S/US-501 S/I-85 S ramp. Merge onto I-85 S/US-15 S/US-501 S. Take exit 174A on the left for US-501-BYP S/US-15-BYP S toward Chapel Hill/Hillsborough Rd. Merge onto US-15 S/US-501 S. Turn left at Garrett Rd. Turn right at Old Chapel Hill Rd. Arrive at Sherwood Githens Middle School.
